So what does a Virtual Assistant actually do?
Despite the fact that I was actually doing this kind of work for the first time some 29 years ago when I gave up working in an office to look after my newly born second child, I would say that Virtual Assistants are a relatively 'new thing' in some respects but with the change in the way that people now work, you are definitely going to hear and see more of them in the future. Nobody would have referred to me as a Virtual Assistant 29 years ago and some people today have probably still not come across the term. So what does a Virtual Assistant (VA) actually do?
Who would use a Virtual Assistant?
Well this week I have had such an interesting bunch of people to work with. I've been helping an Emergency Physician/Antarctic Expedition Leader based in Chicago find someone to look at his SEO/Google analytics; I've been liaising with a Creative Designer on my client's new website/logo/artwork for her new and exciting Vegetarian Cafe opening in London next week; I've booked flights to Canada and I've found a Plasterer to do someone's utility room at very short notice (harder than you might think!). I've typed up Minutes of a Board Meeting and I've done transcription work for a Business Coach. I've also popped into Bristol to do a Hair Studio's reconciliation of their bank accounts and manage their emails, am doing a Business Plan for a Mobile Mechanic, updating prices on someone's house rental sites, have spent today answering calls for an Insurance Broker and I'm now coming to the end of a three week stint of dog/house sitting for the lovely lady in this photo. Phew...and my husband wonders what I do all day!
What benefit can a VA bring to YOUR business?
Why do people use a VA? Because they can have their own Personal Assistant at a fraction of the cost of employing somebody, with no need for Tax/NI contributions, desk space & equipment not to mention holiday and sick pay. They don't pay me for a single minute longer than they need me and hopefully I provide not only an excellent service to them but I also am a benefit to them that they will continue to want to have for many years to come because I LOVE my work!
